Process Paper: Ancient Greek Architecture
Why I chose this topic:
During my ancient Greece Unit in world history class, we learned about the architecture of Ancient Greece. I did additional research on the influence on ancient Greek architecture and I was astonished by the work of Hellenistic people on Greek architecture. Also, since I have good background knowledge of the ancient Greece, I decided to build on that knowledge and chose to research the architecture of ancient Greece.
How I conducted my research:
I went on the Internet at home and found most of my resources by using the suggested sites in the CVHS library on blackboard. First, I went on the Gale Virtual Reference Library. It was quicker and easier to use than going to the school library. In addition, when I search for a topic, it gave me suggestions to other books that are related to that topic so that I can learn more. After I found all the book source I needed, I cited them in my noodle tool. Then I read the introduction of all the books and annotated about that book. For my annotation, I wrote what my source was about, how does it relate to my topic, and how I was going to use it for my project. Next, I took notes on from the books and created multiple note cards for each fact I found. Then I went on the electronic encyclopedia on my computer at home. I found great information to support the notes from previous sources. In addition, I found great websites. Websites were very helpful because they gave me brief information on the topic that I was looking for. Most of my questions were answered through the websites. I continued to take notes on the websites after. I outlined my ideas by categorizing my notes into 4 different sections: Classical orders, Greek temples, Greek cities and buildings, and Greek monumental construction. Next, I needed some pictures for my website. The Website should communicate my topic’s significance in Ancient Greek history interactively. To engage and inform viewers, my website should incorporate interactive multimedia, text, and non-textual descriptions. At first, I decided to find my pictures from Grove Art Online. Although, there weren’t as many pictures to chose from. Thus, I decided to go on Google. I found many pictures for my website to attract audience and make text more interesting. Then I annotated each pictures. After I found my secondary sources, I found my primary source as a picture of Parthenon from Grove Art Online. Lastly, I found some videos that will give additional notes about the Greek architecture. Then I annotated my videos. With my research ready and my outline made, I decided to start making my own website.
How I created and developed my website:
First, I picked the theme for my website. I chose an unique theme that will go with my topic. In the beginning, I categorized my notes into 4 sections. However, I discovered that I needed to create a Home Page and Research Page. For weebly, I couldn’t afford to pay for additional tools, so I decided to use the Free Plan. However, the Free Plan was limited to only 5 pages per website. Therefore, I combined my notes about Greek cities and buildings with Greek monumental construction together in one page. To have a general plan for my website, I moved around the texts and pictures to condense the information so everything will fit. Then I made sure that pictures and texts were visible and clear. Next, I added my videos on the bottom of the page. Lastly, I checked to meet all the criteria for the project, and published the website. Finally, I outlined my oral presentation to make sure that I speak for 3 to 4 minutes.
